Ben Franklin Johnson III, Southern Arkansas University history professor, conducted oral history interviews while engaged in researching a biography of Arkansas poet John Gould Fletcher. Subjects interviewed included Mary Fletcher Worthen, Mr. and Mrs. William L. Terry, Mrs. George Rose Smith, and Dr. Woodbridge Morris.

The Little Rock Athletic Association was formed in February 1882 by a group of young men for the purpose of recreation and socialization. Their first meetings were held at Bernays and Maxwell Store on the ground floor of the Capital Hotel. The organization soon leased a lot on the south side of the Arkansas River, near Main Street. W.L. Terry was born on 27 Sept. 1850 near Wadesboro, N.C. He graduated from Trinity College in North Carolina in 1872 and was admitted to the bar in Little Rock in 1873. From 1875 to 1885, he was city attorney. In 1879, he also served as state senator and senator pro tempore. He was elected to Congress in 1901 and retired in 1909. In 1875 he married Mollie C. Dixon.
